Miniature German Shepherd

The founder of the breed is a German cavalry officer, Captain Max von Stephanitz who founded the breed in 1890s. He was the first one who noticed that this breed was very intelligent and could be used in more different ways. Thus from selected specimens possessing strong body, sound mind and the instincts to herd and protect, Stephanitz began his dream of breeding a perfect working dog. In 1899, a group of enthusiasts founded the club dedicated to this breed. From this time on the dog’s popularity began to increase.

Adopting a dog from a rescue or a shelter is a serious step. Dogs of this breed are usually very devoted to their owners and suffer from separation anxiety greatly. They need special care and rehabilitation. Some dogs miss their previous families so much that they refuse to eat. If new owners are kind and gentle with a new pet, it will recover and make a reliable companion. In most rescues, dogs are rehabilitated in foster families. Being surrendered one more time is a great shock for a dog, so prior to adoption think twice about the responsibility you assume.
